To start, I’m not certain as I’m also gay and like my women more womanly than youthful. But I think a part of it is that yourhfulness is sexually prized fo the point you could call it fetishized in our society, especially in women. The rich, famous, and powerful therefore have access to a lot of young women in the 18-20something range. And I think a decent chunk of them wind up in groups of peers pursuing these young women and start pushing the age down bit by bit. And there’s the taboo and boundary pushing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they found 14 year olds more exciting because it’s wrong and because they can. Combes, Trump, epstein, and the like have always struck me as similar to those people who can’t stop cheating but would never open their relationship unless their partner doesn’t want it. The sort who’d beat their partner but only without consent. They need to push boundaries and take more than they give. I can’t recall the word and I’m not about to google it, but I suspect they are generally not “pedophiles” but that thing that refers to post-puberty but still underage. Like the physical attributes of sexual maturity with the power dynamics of a child.
They might even go for plausible deniability. Again, haven’t researched too hard but I wouldn’t be surprised if some satisfied Epstein customers never actually asked or were told the specific ages and could at least claim they thought they were 18 or 19 or something.
I do expect the Epstein “list” to be potentially messy. If there’s one thing that seemed obvious is that he collected celebrity contact info like trophies. If there’s a “list” in practice, I hope it’s anchored in evidence and I hope Epstein was big on making sure he had blackmail fodder. If it’s just contacts he managed to get, that would be a rough time for everyone all around.

Pardons should be reserved solely for crimes against the state or crimes committed in service to eh state. Crimes against individuals by other individuals should not be pardonable.
Well, I dunno. Pardons are good when the justice system fails and locks up innocent people for decades. The burden of proof on appeals is set so high that the appeals system is broken in and of itself. Think about all the racially motivated prosecutions throughout the years, the unjustly prosecuted anarchists, the bribed juries, the kangaroo court shenanigans, etc. How many stories have we heard of cops badgering the wrong person for dozens of hours in interrogation until they got false confessions? All because cops’ egos are so absurd that they refuse to admit they might have come to the wrong conclusions with incomplete information. I’m all for pardons in crimes against individuals. The problems isn’t in the case structure, it’s in the person doling out the pardons.
Normally the function of pardoning was self-regulating in that the media would exscoriate any President who did it in such an abusive way and the electorate would punish them and their party accordingly at the ballot box.
But corruption has become normalized and media has been completely hijacked by billionaires that reality isn’t so clear cut as it once was.
