The last movie I’ve watched from MCU was “Captain America: Brave New World”. It was alright I guess, but my interest in marvel movies has pretty much ended with Avengers Endgame in 2019
I’ll save you 300 hours: I’ve seen Iron Man, Antman 2, and the Chinese rings movie so I’m pretty much caught up. If I had to guess, Avengers Doomsday is about a bunch of super heroes (Iron Man, Spiderman(?), Spandex Boobs, Lightning Man, Dr. Magic etc) who have to save the universe by teaming up and beating the ultimate baddies (i.e. Dark Galactus, Mutant Man, Killbot, Planet Killer, Killstroyer etc.).
Spoiler - the good guys win, but hang around for the credits because Planet Killer…HAS A SON! 🤯 And you’ll never guess which of the good guys is actually a double agent (it’s Spandex Boobs) 🤯🤯

I tried watching some of those new Marvel capeshit. They felt like undiluted slop. I’ll return to my Chris Reeve Supes movies and DC cartoons.

I don’t even mind there being a huge elaborate web of relations and context, the real issue imo is that it’s all just fucking slop and self reference and The Reddit Idea of Being Epic, meaning that the movie isn’t here introducing you to a whole mythos of connected stories like it purports, it’s just giving fucking homework of watching old shitty movies and and shows to get shallow references in new shitty movies and shows, and there’s no real purpose to it except to make you pay more money to consume more product. It doesn’t have interesting ideas or messages, it just wants you to clap when the thing explodes and action man says the line that he said 5 movies ago and also 3 movies ago.
The first Avengers movie is when it went beyond post-credits scenes. A restrained approach had stopped at endgame. And also it wouldnt have made age of ultron, that thing was pure filler.
Most of my fanfiction takes place in the same universe because… I don’t actually remember why I decided that.
Does mean my “Romance novel” happens in the same world as my Rats of NIMH, Redwall, and RWBY fanfictions. Although the latter three occur in simulations, and the “romance novel” and Redwall simulation happens hundreds of years after my author self insert character dies.

These movies also look like pure shit, they want to make them so quick they don’t even bother with acting or VFX (compare the effects of the 1989 Batman Movie or even the 2002 Spider-Man Movie with any modern MCU movie), hell even the lore in these movies are sometimes not even close to the comics.
I was so confused after watching Marvel movies. Not including X men, I’ve only seen guardians of the galaxy vol. 1, black panther, one of the captain Americas, and the spider man that had Toby Mcguire come back. All CGI souless junk.

I remember when people made fun of George Lucas during the Prequels for the mass usage of CGI, and nowadays the MCU movies look worse than those movies.
I remember when Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was held up as the pinnacle of bad movies and widely mocked. When the more recent Star Wars sequels came out, I watched them and they were terrible. I mentioned it to someone recently and said that the new films are so bad that they make The Phantom Menace look good, which they rejected based on a weak memory of TPM that is tainted by all the fan hate from the era. We ended up watching TPM together, and they were bewildered by how good it was compared both to their memory of it and to the newer films.
I can only imagine what it’s like compared to modern Marvel films.
I think TPM is a ok movie, it does look pretty good for the most part, the plot is ok. It does have some fun stuff and and a lot of nerdy politics stuff too. A lot of it aged really poorly (the accents specially and a lot of the cgi), but I think it’s a fun movie to watch. Attack of the Clones had a lot more boring stuff and no one talks about it. RoTS is good though.

For all the hate George Lucas get, I think at least he knew what he wanted when he started the Prequels and how they would end, unlike the Marvel movies. Lucas’ problem is that he clearly didn’t knew how to direct dialogue or how to say what he wanted without really boring loredump, and there was very little pushback. Marvel stuff nowadays is just radlib pro-us propaganda (even more than the comics were), with really cheap and bad cgi and barely any acting besides saying funny lines.
many of those scenes were blended with practical effects and actually hold up today. Some scenes not so much.
The Prequels unironically pioneered how films are currently being made. They got some things wrong because that’s what happens when you’re on the cutting edge, but everything people were complaining about when those films came out is standard practice now and when somebody films a mid effect with an actual model that’s all it takes to get all of the pain piggies in movie message boards clapping.
That’s such a good way of putting it.
Those movies aren’t an artform: they’re just…content.
I’ve enjoyed every Marvel Movie Ive seen. I have the guardians of the galaxy movies, Thor ragnarok and the first tom Holland Spiderman. I’m not ever gonna see any more

I had issues with the military propaganda and the messaging in that movie, especially given the war the US was engaged in at the time.

Do people actually like these movies? Besides children and redditors. Are these now like those Adam Sandler Movies that he makes to launder money and to hang out with his friends who have no real relevance anymore?
I enjoyed the first wave where they had no idea what they were doing yet, so Captain America was kind of a spy movie and Thor was E.T. But Hot. Once they settled in on a formula, it became impossible to give a damn.
Honestly I think the main market for these movies is people who say “let’s go to a movie” and then have no idea what’s coming out so they just look at what’s currently playing and they pick the thing that they figure is the most safe bet.
that’s for theaters, when it’s streaming slop the main market doesn’t matter because people are rarely actually watching what they’re streaming that’s why Netflix now mandates that you restate the plot of the film multiple times to make sure people can follow along.
I had a friend who loved them and she’d make me go see every one and I’d find ways to make myself incredibly drunk before heading into the screening.

I’m really glad the fandoms I’m interested in are like, that one small book series by a perfectly average writer, the Rats of NIMH, and some of the older Call of Duty’s. Stuff that’s pretty cheap to get into.
This one guy I know has a similar flavor of autism to me, and he has a bunch of Warrior Cats stuff, especially the books. And Warrior Cats has a LOT of books in it.

Lol these are the same Marvel movies that I like. I also did enjoy the Hulk 2003 and the Punisher 2004. With DC stuff I think the old stuff is mostly good or ok, I just really hate Zack Snyder and Gal Gadot. The new Superman movie was cool too.

Fun Fact; Blade Trinity was supposed to promote a spin-off movie called Nightstalkers with Hannibal (the deadpool actor) and Abigail as the main characters. It didn’t work out because no one liked those characters and the movie was bad.

I watch it cuz I like superpowers and fantasy. I also like those “character X power scenes compilation” on youtube. It’s empty entertainment, if it was smart I probably wouldn’t like it. Sometimes you just need something dumb and visually stimulating to catch your attention for a while. I’ll also watch movies and shows if there’s a really hot guy in the cast or if there’s a lot of overacting. That movie with the alien soap bubble and the mutant bear screaming help is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time just for the visuals, I watch it from time to time but I can’t even remember the name. That’s how little I care about movies.
When I want to watch visually stimulating images, I just watch random speedruns cranked at 2x speed. Marvel slop isn’t even that good as visual stimulation.
