In June, he was at 58%.
Hmm so strange how you get high approval ratings when your policies are not against the people.
Hmmm 🤔
Except it’s only for NYC, for the rest of the state his approval ratings are actually going down. That’s common though. Urban liberal areas usually think positively of liberal politicians, but when you add in rural areas, their approval ratings drop dramtically. Basically nothing has changed, even with someone as well liked as Mamdani.
The rest of the state that he is the mayor of…
Yes, we all know that he is the mayor of NYC, not the governor of NY. However the mayor of NYC is often seen as wielding as much power as the governor, hence why there are always comparisons, and they are valid when looking at larger approval ratings of policies. If this was some DSA mayor of a small city in the middle of nowhere, there wouldn’t even be a news story about it. Hell, there are many very liberal mayors in California, and they are hardly talked about, for the exact same reason.
Ok but why should he care about people who are literally not his constituents. Imo his approval rating with irrelevant people going down is a good sign: it means the mayor of NYC is actually paying attention and caring about NYC for once.
Wait till you hear Israelis opinion about him!

Its so rare for approval to climb after getting in office… Just proves that actually doing shit is feasible alternative to whatever the establishment has been up to for the best forever.
Who would have thought that doing your job could be so popular?
It helps that every other fucker is just screwing things up in their own particular favor

That’s around the same as Trump’s disapproval rating.
For anybody that doubts this, I looked it up. Some polls are more in the 55%-60% range, but there are also these:
Reuters/Ipsos (August 21–24): 65% disapprove and 33% approve.
American Research Group (August 15–19): 66% disapprove and 30% approve.I looked into it because I suspected it was more like 35% approve, 50% disapprove, leaving 15% fucking clueless somehow.
I used to follow the Gallup polls for this, because of the long time series and general reputability. But then it turned out they do not have a spine. Since then I always look at the aggregated results at https://www.natesilver.net/p/trump-approval-ratings-nate-silver-bulletin . Every poll has a significant margin of error (depending on sample size) and bias (depending on methodology), so aggregating them is generally a good idea.
Nate Silver is a known POS. I strongly suggest to avoid that. Here is one that lists them all: https://www.realclearpolling.com/latest-polls
ETA: https://www.salon.com/2024/09/06/nate-silver-faces-backlash-for-pro-model-skewing/
Realclearpolitics is worse than Nate Silver. They’re openly conservative and manipulate their polling average by accepting only GOP internals not dem ones, which means their averages are super biased GOP.
Do you have sources on that? If so, who is a better option than both of them?
I mean the wikipedia page shows it’s “conservative”.
As for what sources to rely on instead. G Elliot Morris is the gold standard. But there are plenty of hobbyist websites that do just as well (if not better since include internals from both sides) as RCP.
For example: https://plusminus4.substack.com/p/2026-senate-polling-averages
There’s also the fivethirtyeight subreddit on reddit 🤢 which has all the polling nerds and that’s the best place to find resources and people who may know what they’re talking about. Unfortunately such a community hasn’t established itself on the thredi.
FYI, I’m not trolling you. I believe you, I just really don’t know what is fair in that department. I did a little digging and these came up. I’m going to start checking on them:
Ooops I see I forgot to link to G Elliott Morris’ website. Here ya go
I vaguely remember something like that, thanks for the alternative. Direct link at https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/approval-rating
G. Elliott Morris used to build 538’s models, and now he does his own. There are Senate and House forecasts there too.
Link?
Ironic, given that even Donald Trump approves of Zohran Mamdani.
Well, he DID like him. For a while.
Trump likes winners. But if they make HIM look like a loser, not so much.
Zohran Mamdani is one of the most popular politicians in the country, atm.
In the world. He is globally popular
Yeah, and Trump is one of most unpopular. People compare the two and Trump looks bad in comparison and he hates that. So he badmouths Zohran now.
Nobody stays in Trumps good books forever. Certainty not if they outshine him.
People compare the two and Trump looks bad in comparison and he hates that.
I’ve seen more the opposite. Trump sees Mamdani as popular and keeps trying to hitch a wagon to his star. He did a congratulatory call, gave Mamdani a few concessions coming into office, and even invited him to the WH for a photo op.
