Atleast some spine would be showed by the MLs in the org but didn’t happen.

“Tankies” aka they don’t do the vote performance to the satisfaction of the Red Scare propaganda they’ve been uncritically marinating in for a lifetime

Yeah I’m sure Cuba sucks because you can’t vote for the “dismantle and destroy the revolution” party and expect to be elected and sworn in and legitimized by the apparatuses of the revolutionary government you’re trying to dismantle. Do these people even hear themselves? It would be an instant constitutional crisis. Of course it wouldn’t go anywhere.

Like many people have already said, “tankie” just means “person who opposes the West.” It has nothing to do with Marxism-Leninism or any form of socialism or being an authoritarian. Easiest sign is how Russian ultranationalists and Han chauvinists get labeled tankies while Hindutva fascists and Grey Wolves fascists don’t get labeled tankies even though all four are non-Western reactionaries. The key difference is that Russian ultranationalists and Han chauvinists oppose the West for dipshit reactionary reasons while Hindutva fascists and Grey Wolves fascists can’t even do the bare minimum of opposing the West. This is why they are almost never labeled tankies.

The only exception is the Axis of Resistance. They get labeled as “Islamist” even though members of the Axis of Resistance come from different branches of Islam with some members like the PFLP not even being Muslim at all.

At a certain point, the two terms will converge. “Tankie” will mean “non-Muslim Islamist,” and “Islamist” will mean “Muslim tankie.” Islamocommunism is the new Judeobolshevism. Hegseth has been very explicit in this.

The DSA as it currently stands is not a real organization. Most people who joined have been in the past 5 years. They were all libs before that. The fact they aren’t all MLs is not surprising and not even to be expected. Going into these groups and pushing the people and organization left is still a good thing. And I support all comrades who do that important work.

I joined originally after Bernie in 2017, kind of lost interest after awhile. All of the radical members left afaik. I rejoined recently and oh man is everyone libbed up. Someone started talking about the Uyghurs in a group chat and I wanted to throw my phone at the wall. It would be great to try to push these people left, but I feel like I don’t I’m the person to do that.

Many such cases. I think the best way to bring about change is to join groups like Red Star (I believe is the name) within DSA who have an organized plan to push DSA left. Arguing with libs who are active because they want to have a friend group doesn’t really work well.

    1. Not surprised that the DSA Redditor caucus would post things like this

    2. How can someone correctly identify the problems with capitalism, see through that propaganda, but when it comes to imperialism they just completely accept what they’ve been told? Like they presumably know they were lied to about Iraq, and Palestine, but I guess they think they were told the truth about DPRK and Cuba and Venezuela and probably China as well?

tbh i don’t think they correctly identify the problems with capitalism. at least not in their entirety. they might have resolved to maybe-possibly consider a resolution to censure aoc (at least that’s where they were last time i checked up on them), but they’re still the party of bernie sanders “socialism”. i respect certain caucuses within the dsa but their overall party line is still very much “equitable imperialism”. here’s hoping they can become not like that

The unspoken truth is this; they realize, to some degree, that they are the beneficiaries of imperialism, and so their ideology reflects this willful ignorance to the nature of the current world order and socialism’s place in it. They only support socialism domestically (nominally) in the first place because they perceive some personal benefit.

Last time I spoke to a US leftist about world wide socialism they told me China is fascist. I think people in the imperial core have blinders on.

look I’m no dsa booster but anyone can post on reddit dot com

in fact its normie appeal as a pseudonymous forum was second to only twitter and it’s gotten comensurrate natsec attention as a result.

but where these posts and votes are organic reflections of the membership, it shows the limitations of no demcent*. at least they changed that ban a couple months ago

Yeah this is a cringe post tbh. Anyone who thinks they understand an entire organization based on an unofficial subreddit, is a dipshit.

You don’t have to like DSA, but dislike it for an actually informed reason. No investigation, and all that.

You know what? I’m still on a wait and see with Mandami. Maybe, for whatever reason, he feels like he has to comment on this to win (I don’t think he does, but whatever). Talk is cheep. I’m willing to prolong my disappointment until after I see how he acts in office.
