How gay is that?! They need to have their own party, because they aren’t welcome at the regular one. Such cry babies with their safe spaces and delicate feelings.

If I told someone I had a video of muscular dudes in spandex pants wrestling around with each other in the mud, they’d think I never miss pride events, but tell them its the most recent superbowl and suddenly…

Football can be described in so many fun ways.

Years ago when my rep was cosponsoring some bill about how video games were killing children my buddy sent him a letter. I don’t remember the exact contents but it pointed out the rich history in Texas of folks wearing different colors violently defending their turf from rivals. Schools are training high schoolers to how to be in a gang as a sponsored activity every Friday evening.

the Super Bowl is just a bunch of burly guys pressing tightly against another group of burly guys trying to prove who is best at handling balls all to win jewelry and a purse.

They’re whole ethos is antisocial. They are obstinent toddlers who stomp their feet and fold their arms and think it’s funny to make other people mad.

I learned pretty recently that “degenerate” has roots in eugenics so I try to avoid that one.

Edward Gibbons used it quite a bit in the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, which was written sometime around 1750-ish, before the american revolution, the founding fathers all read it.

The USA is not a monolith. The lines and features have probably shifted, but the idea of Colin Woodward’s “American Nations” rings quite true today.

You’re missing the joke. One of the chief conservative complaints about immigrants is that “they don’t assimilate into american society”.

Yes, I got the joke. And I was suggesting that Americans have always been on about other Americans not assimilating into their American culture. I also just find jokes about fascists being hypocritical or contradictory are no longer funny when the assumption that it’s an indication of foolish lack of self-awareness no longer holds because double-think is the active goal.

Sports are called “foot” ball because they involve running and aren’t played on horses. And “ball” doesn’t mean “sphere”

I don’t watch association, Australian, rugby or American football, but you’ve bothered the etymologist in me with your nonsense suggestion.

            Lol.

“Foot means played on foot” is not the same as “every other sport must be played on horse”. Football naming etymology has no impact on the naming of other sports. Chess is often played in a chair, not on foot, so it already is a non foot game. The lack of distinguishing may be to allow some chess players to optionally stand, or play from horseback if desired.

It DOES mean though that you are not allowed to play American football on horseback.

Well, this shows once again that the right-wing extremists need their own artificially staged reality in order to somehow justify all the outrageous lies of the MAGA leadership: they simply cannot allow people to peacefully celebrate sporting events.

It’s really absurd how blind these idiots are. They just can’t see that the imaginary enemy images that are being mindlessly propagated here simply serve to distract from how thoroughly degenerate the leaders of this “movement” are, from the fact that they are actually the enemies of all halfway decent people.

The stupidity is really only surpassed by the ruthlessness of the criminals responsible for this moronic deception.

They’re doing the “brainwashing” they accuse others of. Benny Shap’s network makes right-wing movies for crying out loud.

They defend this by saying that hollywood is “left” wing … so they must “counteract” and “balance” things.

I’m reminded of the Chris Wallace and Jon Stewart interview: https://youtu.be/UYbtUztVctI?t=417

      Jon Stewart:

Here’s the difference between you and I, I’m a comedian first … my comedy is informed by an ideological background. There’s no question about that, but the thing you will never understand and the thing that conservative activists will never understand is that Hollywood, yeah they’re liberal, but that’s not their primary motivating force. I’m not an activist. I’m a comedian and my comedy is informed by ideology, there’s no question about that, but I’m not an ideologue.

Ben shaps is originally a failed writer who sucked too hard to get hired in Hollywood, so now he writes the dumbest shit to try to show what a smart boy he is. He only sounds smart to dummies, his clevererest argument technique is the gish gallop, and that old short meme video response to him which references aqua man sums up his entire career and intellectual capability.

Of course they do, this is their mindless tactic and it’s obvious to everyone with half a brain because it’s so mindless (it used to be much more skillful).

This can only work because there’s so much money behind it. Otherwise, it would never be possible to maintain such obvious bullshit. It can only work because there are billionaires and because these billionaires are all inhumane monsters - psychopaths by definition. It is the logical consequence of unbridled capitalism, which, contrary to all the narratives that people like Milton Friedman have made famous, is not a free market, but always produces the monopolies we see today.

The civilizational regression we are experiencing today is the direct result of this: of too much money in too few horribly unscrupulous hands.

In itself, it’s simple, but billionaires are doing everything they can to prevent people from realizing that - as in this case: hey, let’s just have our own fascist Super Bowl show. It’s just sooo fucking stupid, but so are people.

I guess this is how it is: Despite its blatant absurdity, all of this is only possible because people allow it - that is just a fact. With all that monstrous shit going on in the word besides better judgement I find it increasingly difficult to attribute this to any other reason than that there is a significant proportion of people who are incorrigible, arrogant and ignorant beyond saving - and then some who are just plain evil. Perhaps that is human nature, which Kant and all other Enlightenment thinkers always denied because they wanted people to believe in the good of the people so they can do good instead of evil.
