Recent reports have raised alarm about the use of PatronScan, an ID-checking and face-scanning system, at multiple LGBTQ+ bars in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood. Much of the attention has focused on reports that the system photographs patrons as they enter venues and questions about whether those images are used for facial recognition.

      It’s so hard to know who is actually gay these days, wouldn’t it be great if they wore little badges all the time so they could be easily identified? Maybe pink triangles? They seem to like those already. /s

    Yeah I think lots of bars are doing this now, so that info about unruly customers propagates between them. I don’t think I’ve gone into a bar since before November 2019 (when Covid hit) and will probably keep staying out of them. Back then at least though, folks old enough to obviously be over 21 usually didn’t get carded. I guess that has changed.
