Everyone forgot that Twitter was the most harmful website on the entire internet when Elon Musk stepped in and made it even worse.
My vehement hatred of Twitter started in the early 2010s when it went from “that web site where messages are too short for me to care about being on it” to “that web site my best friend’s new partner won’t fucking stop talking about the drama they’re involved in every time they’re over, ruining my weed pot high every time” then it just got worse and worse like you said.
At least people aren’t using Tumblr/Tumblrina as an insult anymore

It has more to do with the fact that Twitter, much like 4chan, is a terrible hell scape that needs to be wiped off the face of the planet, but has hosted to the creation some of my favorite content the Internet has to offer.
Reddit, on the other hand, always felt like a dusty mirror to older forum posting, a centralized location of all the dumbest, rudest and most psuedo-intellectual people who couldn’t hack it on the actual expert forums.
Name me one good thing that has come out of 4chan. FOH.
I always enjoyed a good green text story. And the shit on /m was always pretty decent at least for introducing me to Gundam back the day.

Twitter is like reddit but instead of being designed for discussions it’s designed for wading through an ocean of piss.
What’s the difference?
twitter is shorter and more pointed smugness like a tiktok, while reddit is a a longwinded, slow burn smugness like a 70s movie
Also people use their real human names and faces on twitter, and real human names and faces were never meant to be on the internet and putting them here anyway can only bring strife.
It really does nothing to regulate/calm discourse like many people claimed/hoped it would. But you get cults of personality and more mobbing and targetted/personal attacks so it’s impossible to say whether it’s good or bad.
Anyone who claims that real names improve discourse is either a huge sucker or a lying surveillance agent.

Twitter has been, by far, the best source of information on the Gazan holocaust and nothing else comes close. I will have a nap on this hill.
Unlike twitter its hard to create a good subscription feed on reddit. I was ruling my timeline with an iron fist, blocking and muting thousands of accounts and at the end I still had an active feed of content. If you try that on reddit you get an empty page real quick. So I think people are more lenient on twitter because they associate it with their heavily curated niche, not the ‘hivemind.’
