This person might literally be like 15 and trying to make sense of the words they’ve just now heard for the first time lol

Like, the people calling you gringo are not and never have been the same people that are calling you yank. They’re just two completely unrelated terms by two completely different groups of people who don’t like Americans

And you don’t even have to really dislike Americans to use them, I’ve heard both these terms used endearingly

I would really like to have a racial slur against white Americans specifically that is guaranteed to make white Americans get their panties in a bunch. I like ‘Yakubian’ for it but it is not particularly American.

Someone called me a racist for saying USian and told me I was trying to make them sound like Asians and I was dumbfounded because thinking that made them sound way more racist against asians than me.

How is United Statesian a slur though? That is the literal translation of the demonym for them that is accepted and commonly used in Latin America? Estadounidense. Emphasis on dense I guess.

United Statsian is the correct term for USians in portuguese and spanish (we rarely use outside of formal context because the name of the country sucks), it was used since at least the 1860s iirc. Gringo is not exclusive to americans though, it’s more a term used to anyone who was not born in a Latin American Country or Family/Culture. Never heard Yank being used, just Yankee.

Yank is more of a British term. It means the same as yankee in Britain. Yankee can be used by Americans on other Americans, but yank just means ‘American’

Formal Portuguese borderline requires that its writers use multiple nouns for the same thing. Sure, it used to be in vogue to not use the word ‘american’ back in the 1990s. But, really, all actual writers just use Americano, Norte Americano, Ianque and Estadunidense regardless of connotation.

    Ok cracker

Also like what the fuck how is United Statian a slur mf that’s just a term for you that doesn’t monopolize a continent. Also also “yank” can be used indearingly rather than as a epithet. Also also also “gringo” is only an epithet in certain places, afaik it much of Latin America it isn’t use in a derogatory sense but it’s used in the sense that people of the US monopolized the term AmeriKKKan.

    God fucking damn it doggirl-tears

Of course they’re. Everytime we call them out on their imperialism and shit, they start to cry about “muh i got called gringo” as if they were not the most racist nation on earth.

Also, I wouldn’t be messing with Brazilians, they might start spamming Vampeta Pictures in your DM for months.

In Brazil gringo is used for basically anyone who’s not from Brazil. The usage of gringo is different depending on what country is using it. In Mexico it’s mostly reserved for people from the US and Canada, in the Andes is used for anyone who looks white, and for Argentina it’s used for immigrants who are from a non Spanish speaking European country, but especially for the Germans and Italian.

I think thats Guero. mostly Mexicans use that, it just means like “white person/european looking”, it’s very common for friends/couples/vendors to call people that. In some countries in South America (and Haiti) we usually call loved ones and friends “black person” because that mostly means bro/darling/sweetie even if they’re white.
