IMO you can really see this on full display with the Iran war. As a culture, we really can’t seem to understand that we’re being beaten. No adversary, and certainly not some [$Muslim_Slur] is conceptualized as being able to actual fight us off. The national conception of the entire MENA region is “goatherders with AK 47s and sandals”. The idea that Iran is a large, ancient, well-educated, ideologically motivated, industrially advanced civilization with no desire to assimilate into the American way of life is as inconceivable to the American body politic as plate tectonics would be to an Iron Age peasant.
I’ve certainly gotten that vibe from Americans from time to time, like America is the only country they ever think about, but also they just sort of assume that everyone else is also thinking about America as much as they do.

totally valid. having had working/learning experiences and making friends outside the US/West feels very uncommon here and led to me personally seeking out others with external perspectives (however they acquired them), because it feels isolating to have or cultivate an international, humanist perspective here on Planet America.

I agree, the State Anthem of the USSR is truly one of the greatest and most inspiring national anthems that’s ever existed.
Personally, I don’t like it at all that the Russian Federation reused the tune with nationalist lyrics. I understand why Putin did it, because the “Patriotic Song” under Yeltsin was trash that literally everyone hated, so he wanted to bring back the pride people felt when the USSR anthem was played.
But reusing the anthem’s tune for a capitalist country and replacing the lyrics with things like references to God, could be considered sacrilege.
Yeah, you’re probably right. The sheer amount of Soviet things the Russian Federation either actively ruined or left to rot after that horrible year makes me so goddamn angry… but being mad about it feels better than crying about it, like old post Soviet folks do in way too many videos I’ve seen online.
