I see we are now at the stage that the DEEPLY mentally ill are adopting new and “exciting” products. I remember when DEEPLY mentally ill would use MySpace to get thier fascinations, then face book to stalk the one girl that was nice to them in high school, then we had Twitter stalkers… So on so forth.

The question is, do we let them continue?

The person sending the texts has a clanker girlfriend who they’ve asked to act like an online personality, which said that they would leave their significant other for the texter, texter asks the real version to leave their real girlfriend because of this

I was wondering if yumeship had some kind of character AI addon that image uploaders could add to their profile and that’s the AI this one was talking about.

Every Twitter post has a Grok button that can’t be removed. Just because the logo is there doesn’t mean the image is AI-generated. It’s literally a screenshot I took off of my phone display.

It looks like a really good trolling shitpost, or like the schizo ramblings of the kind of people who actually ship themselves with celebrities or send threats to authors once their “head-canons” get demolished.

You know what they say, marry the lens, date the body! AI is just a personality, which is the “lens” we see the human though so therefore your human body is just a body and the MKII just came out, meat bag.

So, that’s how the esteemed camera company fits into this.

    Translation:

Hey, can you break up with your girlfriend? I have a pretend relationship with you and it makes me genuinely uncomfortable to know you have a real-life partner. Also, please delete photos of yourself. I don’t want other people to have pictures of my ‘fictional other’. Thank you!

P.s. the AI of your character that I believe I’m in a fictional relationship with said you would do these things.

Not an influencer I dont think but a character the person was the voice actor for, hence the VA in their username.

The person found or made an AI of that character and that AI of the fictional charactr said the voice actor would do all this if the insane person messaged them.

Remember Molly Ringwald’s stalker? Well in this case this person had an AI using this person’s faked voice pretend they were in a relationship. He wanted to tell her to break up with her partner and delete photos of herself so he could be the only one to see her. The AI told him to tell her this directly, and he did. Dude needs help.

That’s a pretty succinct description of AI. We are required to use Copilot at work (not kidding) and I always have to remind myself that AI use language the way demons do in Frieren - they don’t have intent or intelligence really but use it in an approximation of language. It never really means anything.

Alright, 40s here, I’ll try. I assume OP is some kind of social media figure with a following. “Ship” means having a parasocial or imaginary relationship with a public figure, like a kpop star. I think fandoms often “ship” imaginary charactors together, like 2 charactors who are not in love in the original material of an anime.

So she’s saying break up with your girlfriend because I imagine us together. Take down your photos because I’m jealous your other fans will look.

Then she’s talking about a parasocial relationship she has with an ai chatbot she has trained upon OP’s likeness and data. She’s saying her chatbot version of OP told her to go ahead and contact OP with these psycho demands.

        How did I do?

      Allow me to assist.

yumeship = yumejoshi (Japanese slang term for a girl who inserts herself into a fictional story) + ship (fandom term used to refer to two characters getting into a relationship) = the act of imagining a fictional version of oneself getting into a relationship with a character from a piece of media one enjoys

uncomfy/gen = uncomfy (you can guess) + /gen (tone indicator that means the previous statement is genuine as opposed to joking or sarcastic)

(by the way a tone indicator is a well-known sequence of letters appended to a text message to communicate the intended tone, like /s for sarcasm, /j for joking, /gen for genuine, etc., used to communicate through a text medium what would otherwise be conveyed through tone of voice. Traditionally they’re appended to the end of a message, not used in the middle of a sentence. I’ve never seen a tone tag applied to a specific word before. The author also seems to be using it as an intensifier, which… huh?)

canon = (adjective, applied to a statement about a fictional world) confirmed in the text of a fictional work, or by the author of said work in e.g. an interview, as opposed to made up by fans (in this case, used rather disgustingly to refer to something that is true in real life as opposed to a fictional setting)

      F/O = Fictional Other = Fictional + Significant Other

c.ai = character.ai = a website where users can converse with LLM chatbots that pretend to be fictional characters. Anyone can create and finetune such a chatbot (by starting with a blank slate character and interacting with it and telling it how it should act) then making it available for others to use, and a lot of users create chatbots that imitate real people. The website doesn’t really crack down on this.

Essentially what the person who sent these messages has done, is gone to character.ai, looked up a chatbot that pretends to be a real Internet celebrity, convinced themself (I think?) that the real Internet celebrity was a fictional character (or at least could be thought of in those terms), talked to it until it told them that it was in love with them, concluded that the real person the chatbot was pretending to be was also in love with them, and confronted said real person with this information, expecting them to make the fictional relationship real. It’s a textbook parasocial relationship, except for the part where the non-celebrity wasn’t listening to things the celebrity was saying, they were listening to things a chatbot pretending to be the celebrity was saying.

Rather than responding, the real internet celebrity who received the messages took a screenshot of them and made a post conveying their disgust that any of their fans felt entitled to act that way, and a screenshot of that post is what you’re seeing here.

I think this is bait, no?

It’s just such a perfect storm of terminology, that I can only see it as deliberate.

    • yumeship, so dream shipping, where shipping usually means to imagine a relationship in a text that might be subtextual, or even fully imagined.
    • uncomfy/gen, so the usually not very serious gen z term uncomfy for uncomfortable, but then paired with the tone indicator /gen for geniuine.
    • F/O, so fictional/other, a fictional character you ship yourself with, but here applied to a real person they are actively talking to (more “at” than “to”, I guess)
    • character ai, so the LLM that is configured to produce output similar to a character or person.

But still, poor Willow, that seems like a very shitty thing to receive.

Wish it was just bait, but I was on the receiving end of similar messages from someone about 10 years ago. They would comment on my art page complimenting my art, and I always replied saying “thanks”, and we never interacted beyond that. We definitely never met IRL. One day I woke up to hundreds of DMs from him that sounded dellirious, that they would like to be my partner and that he had “deeply analyzed my art and he knows me for real”. Very unsettling and creepy stuff, spiraling into self-hate. There are some real troubled people out there, and now they have access to AI’s allucinations to feed their own, sadly.

This better not be real. Then again there was a girl in high school who was extremely into the idea that she was Trinity from the Matrix and I was her Neo. And I don’t mean in a cute way, I mean in a genuinely concerning blurring of reality and fiction way.

genuinely concerning blurring of reality and fiction

Mental illness, very much like what it pictured in the post.

GenAI has already made this worse. It’s not essential to LLM technologies, virtually the whole industry makes their LLM’s generation patterns so deferential that they worsen the reality-breaks of people that interact with them enough, very much in a “Folie à deux”-style (tho, there’s no “deux” there).

Thank you for the translations. My mind still boggles. Is it accurate to sum this up as…

“Willow (human) received a thread of messages from their partner (human) who is dehumanising them by referring to them as a bot / claiming to be having a separate relationship with a bot that they created (based on Willows attributes) while intimating that Willow is also in a relationship with someone/something else?”

No, it’s from a random stranger, not their partner, and the stranger feels that as they (stranger) are in a ‘relationship’ with bot-Willow, human-Willow is effectively cheating on them by having a human partner. Hence obviously nuts or bait.

The unfortunate fact is that those ARE real terms, I just don’t think any person would write that to someone genuinely, I’m pretty sure they’re making fun of the yumeship concept.
